I am pleased to announce that I have become a member of the Academic Committee of the Trade Finance Faculty of the ICC Academy. I am honoured to be able to serve the ICC and the Trade Finance industry in this function.

As most of you will know, the ICC has created an Academy headquartered in Singapore in the spring of 2015. It is great to see that my contribution behind the scenes while I was charing the Advisory Board of the ICC Banking Commission has paid off. I was working closely with KC Tan and other members of the ICC to give birth to this important initiative.

The ICC Academy promotes the highest global standards of excellence in professional education – providing a wide range of recognised certification programs that are recognised worldwide. In line with the ICC mission to promote international trade and investment, the ICC Academy helps professionals develop the skills required to address today’s business challenges.

In 2015, Thierry Senechal has lead the start-up and pulled off significant achievements as he and his team secured a grant of the IE Singapore for 3 years, recruited a complete new team and hired technology service providers for the development of content, developed a pedagogical approach to support the development of programs, put together a robust set of governance and compliance procedures, obtain government accreditations and launched a government subsidise program for polytechnic students and created a very detailed Trade Finance curriculum that will become the Trade Finance industry leading academic institution for Trade Finance education and certification.

The 101 Global Trade Certificate (GTC) curriculum is nearly completed and some courses will be made available to the ICC Academy members in Q1 2016. I was very happy that I could contributed to the curriculum by writing a totally new Introduction to Trade Finance course for the academy and myself experience the rigorous process and quality controls that go into developing on-line education modules.

In addition to the 101 GTC, the academic committee has just signed-off the design of the 201 Certified Trade Finance Professional (CTFP) curriculum. This curriculum will cover more complex content and will also be a mixture of core courses and elective courses.

I am looking forward to working with the academic committee members to help Thierry to make the Trade Finance Faculty of the ICC Academy a success and become the new gold standard for the Trade Finance industry’s education.
